Union Theater Policies and Guidelines

 

Theater Etiquette

*Management reserves the right to remove (or deny entrance to) anyone who does not adhere to house rules or is otherwise disruptive, destructive, or poses a threat to others

House Rules

Food and Drink:

  • Food and beverages are not allowed inside the Auditorium.
  • If food and beverages were approved to be given by event sponsor, the food and beverages must be consumed in one of our lobbies.
  • Bottled water with a lid can be brought into the auditorium.
  • Alcohol is prohibited.
  • Smoking and vaping are prohibited.
  • All personal devices must be turned OFF as you enter the auditorium and remain off throughout the show.

 

 

 

 

  • Audience members should refrain from leaving during a live performance, as it disturbs those around them and performers on stage.
  • Recording devices are prohibited during performances, unless given permission by the copyright holders.
  • Audience members arriving after the show has began will be seated as an appropriate break in the performance.
  • When deciding to bring small children to an event, parents should be sensitive to the nature of the live theater and the interchange of emotions, as well as the length of the event. Some events may be advertised as not appropriate for children.
  • Strollers and/or baby carriers are prohibited in the theater.

All persons are expected to respect all facilities and the rights of others as well as abide by University policies and all laws. Noncompliance of any of the following will result in removal from the facility:

  • Animals are prohibited inside the facilities, with the exception of registered service animals.
  • Soliciting: LSU has strict guidelines (PS – 6) regulating solicitation.
  • Property Damage: Destruction of property will result in applicable fees to reimburse or replace damaged property. Clients must report the incident. Cancellation of future events and loss of reservation privileges may also apply.
  • Sound Regulations: LSU Auxiliary Services reserves the right to determine if sound amplification levels are disturbing other groups or operations. Noise makers in the audience are prohibited.
  •  Fire Code: Open flames, the blocking of any doors and exits, as well as other fire hazards are strictly prohibited. Any event not in compliance with fire code will be immediately shut down and the space evacuated until proper adjustments are made. Guests may not obstruct aisles of the theater. Strollers, baby carriers, walkers, etc. can be left at coat check.
  • Access: No person or their possession should enter or occupy any space designated as off limits to them. This includes maintenance and custodial areas, construction zones, technical areas, and other designated spaces.
  • Signage: No signs can be taped to any portion of the building.

  • If the University is closed due to inclement weather, all reservations in the LSU Student Union will be cancelled automatically.
  • When the alarm sounds, please exit the building immediately
    and calmly, without use of elevator. Please wait until notified by LSU Auxiliary Services before returning to the building. Areas of refuge for persons unable to us stairs are located on the second and third floor balcony landings.
     
     

The Union Theater Office is responsible for the reservation of the Union Theater and the Shirley Plakidas Reception Room. Additional policies for specific activities or areas may also apply.

The LSU Student Union Theater does not offer box office services. It is the event organizer’s responsibility to sell, distribute, manage and control tickets as well as collect and refund any money associated with ticket sales.

Event organizers may use the Union Theater Box Office windows to sell tickets and distribute will call starting 1hour before the event start time until 30 minutes after the event starts. Any additional time will need to be prearranged and approved by the Union Theater Manager in advance.

The Union Theater Box Office does not provide any equipment or personnel to handle tickets or banks for events.

Ticket Sales Policies

  • For all paid ticketed events, everyone entering the theater must have either a valid numbered ticket, bracelet or other form of physical proof they have obtained a ticket from the client.
    • Theater staff will be at the doors to tear or mark tickets
  • No more than 1200 tickets may be allocated for each event. LSUPD may reduce capacity for events.
    • Capacity numbers include sold tickets, comp tickets, and tickets for performers who may be sitting in the house anytime during the event. Event organizer staff who will be in the theater seating area also count towards capacity.
  • When theater staff determine capacity has been reached, no additional persons will be allowed to enter whether they have a ticket or not.
  • Standing room only is not allowed.
  • Event organizers will not sell tickets beyond the theater’s capacity.

Ticket Sale Breakdown

  • General Admission Tickets 
    • The client sells a determined number of tickets where patrons receive a ticket and are able to sit anywhere in the house.
    • An event organizer must remain in the house to answer ticket questions.
  • Reserved Seating
    • If the event organizer would like to have reserved seating for the event, a seating manifest will be given to the event organizer by the Theater Manager.
    • Only seats on the manifest will be sold.
    • Union Theater staff will be able to assist in seating patrons as they enter, but reserved seating must be printed on the tickets.
    • When reserved seating is chosen, an event organizer must remain in the house to answer seating reservation questions for the event.
  • Required Sales Reports
    • The event organizer must send weekly sales updates to unionbox@lsu.edu.
    • On the week of the event daily sales updates must be sent to unionbox@lsu.edu. Sales reports are required to adequate staffing levels can be determined for each event.
    • Sales reports must include sold and complimentary tickets.

Complimentary & VIP Lists

  • If a list of names is needed for the event, the client is responsible for placing a representative at the door to check patrons in. Union Theater staff is not responsible for checking or marking lists.
  • No one will be allowed into the theater without a valid ticket. If “special entry, comp ticket, free entry” etc is offered, someone from the event organizer’s team must be at the door check to credentials of the patron.

Will Call

  • Union Theater staff can set up tables in the lobby for will call tickets if the client requests, but theater staff will not handle ticket distribution. The event organizer must provide someone to sit at the table and handle ticket distribution.

  • For reserved seat events sell the following:
    • Row L of the Center Orchestra
      • Seat 202 Wheelchair space
      • Seat 203 – Companion Seat
      • Seat 204 – Companion Seat
      • Seat 205 – Wheelchair space
      • Seats 207-208 – Regular seats
      • Seat 210 – Wheelchair space
      • Seat 211 -Companion seat
      • and 212 – Companion Seat
      • Seat 213 – Wheelchair space
      • Seat 216 – Wheelchair space
      • Seat 217-218 – Companion Seat
      • Seat 219 – Wheelchair space
    • Walker seats (outside arms lift up for ease in sitting and standing)
      • Orchestra right K 309, Orchestra Left K 109, Balc Right PP 901 and Balc Left PP 701
    • For general admission events sell any ticket. Patrons will be seated in the accessible row upon entry.
