On March 9, 2026, the Accreditation Committee submitted, on behalf of the Chancellor, a Significant Change prospectus to our accrediting body, SACSCOC. Within the last 18 months, the three degree-granting campuses were independently reaffirmed for another 10 years by SACSCOC. The prospectus puts forward for consideration a reorganization that will create a Flagship University as a single accredited institution. If approved at the June SACSCOC Board of Trustees meeting, implementation must take place within 30 days. A substantive change document providing evidence of compliance with Standards of Accreditation will be submitted in time for an on-site visit by SACSCOC in October.

    Panel: Chancellor
Today, LSU Chancellor Jim Dalton launched the Flagship Transformation Initiative, a deliberate effort to align and strengthen the university’s academic, research, and health enterprises in support of long-term excellence and impact. The goal is to transform five campuses – LSU, LSU Health Sciences New Orleans, LSU Health Sciences Shreveport, LSU AgCenter and Pennington Biomedical Research Center – into a statewide, flagship university structured to be more nationally competitive. Nearly 30 committees will review policies and practices at the five campuses to begin harmonization of foundational concepts and definitions to be shared by all campuses.
